Porfido was bred in Chile and ran his first thirteen races there. He won the Grade 1 El Ensayo-Cristal Chilean Derby. In 2006 he was imported to the US where he was trained by Hall-of-Famer Bobby Frankel, and after Frankel’s death, his assistant, Humberto Ascanio. Though Porfido did not repeat his graded stakes win in America, he finished second in the 2008 San Luis Rey (G2) and 2009 Round Table (G3) Handicaps, third in the 2008 San Juan Capistrano (G2), 2008 and 2009 Sunset Handicap (G2), and 2012 Round Table Stakes. At the ages of eleven and twelve Porfido was a game competitor, finishing second in the 2013 Hasta La Vista and third in the 2014 Hasta La Vista Handicap at Turf Paradise. He retired with 79 starts, 15 wins, 11 seconds and 14 thirds and $756,876. Old Friends thanks Gail Hirt, Donna Keen, Sue Sefscik, Fred Krakowiak and John Murrell for the collaborative work that made Porfido’s retirement possible. Share sheet info – click here.
