March 2018 We are saddened by the loss of one of our long-time residents. Gritty, tough-knocking Hidden Dark was one of our oldest mares, and has battled a combination of issues during the last few years. “Dee Dee,” as some of us called her, never won a race, but in her time with us she showed the steady fire of an enduring spirit, no doubt an inheritance from her great sire, Ferdinand. We miss her. History:
A daughter of Ferdinand, Hidden Dark did not inherit her great sire’s talent for racing. She competed 11 times at Hollywood Park, Del Mar and Santa Anita, retiring as a maiden with a 2nd place and a 3rd place to her credit. She didn’t stand out as a broodmare, either, but she has earned a dignified retirment no less than Ferdinand’s best foal, our star Bull Inthe Heather. Hidden Dark, alias Dee Dee, came to Old Friends with her two buddies Ava Lotta Hope and Magic Dot.
