Grade 1 winner El Brujo raced as a homebred for Windways Farm in Ontario, Canada. Having won the 2009 Achievement Stakes and Queenston Stakes at Woodbine at the age of 3, he came to Kentucky and swept the Kentucky Cup Sprint (G3) with Garret Gomez up at Turfway Park, then the Perryville Stakes (G3) steered by Edgar Prado at Keeneland. Sold to Arnold Zetcher, El Brujo capped off a strong 4 year old campaign with the achievement of his career, leading gate to wire to win the 2010 Pat O’Brien Stakes (G1) at Del Mar with Joel Rosario aboard, trained by Bob Baffert. The swift Canadian sprinter earned a total of $721,438 from 7 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds in 18 career starts. He retired to Windways Farm where he was foaled, where he resided with fellow homebred Victor Cooley until the farm ceased operations in the spring of 2014. Old Friends is grateful to the Beggs family of Windways Farm for enabling the retirement of El Brujo and his friend Victor Cooley to Dream Chase Farm in Kentucky.
