Holy Estrapade marched to his own drummer. The Allen Paulson homebred was by gray Hall of Famer Holy Bull and out of a chestnut Hall of Fame nominee—Estrapade. But he himself emerged nearly charcoal black. While his sire and dam were champions of the highest order, he never so much as started in a race. And while the great Estrapade once passed through an auction ring for $4.5-million, her last living foal brought a mere $10,000. Greatness was simply not in the cards for Holy Estrapade.
In 2005 Estrapade was to have been pensioned to Old Friends but died before arriving. Nearly a decade later, we welcomed her son with open arms, and he spent his last eight years with us, living the good life.
