This past year we lost three of the old Shadwell heroes in addition to Albertus Maximus, among them 31-year-old Dumaani—a global stakes-winning millionaire.
Dumaani possessed a pedigree that money could rarely buy. He was by legendary Danzig, out of a Group 1 winner, was a half-brother to a classic-winning highweight, and hailed from a distaff family saturated in blacktype. He did not disappoint. Swift on grass and over shorter distances, Dumaani won three graded stakes and set a mile turf record at Keeneland before his career ended.
A beautiful dappled gray in his youth, upon arrival here his coat had become a brilliant white—making him easy to spot even in the dark.
We lost Dumanni last July due to infirmities of age.
