Old Friends and Kentucky Derby Winner Big Brown Launch Search for Next Old Friends Mini-Ambassador

GEORGETOWN, KY – January 12, 2026 – Old Friends, the Thoroughbred Retirement farm located in Georgetown, Kentucky, is excited to announce the launch of a very special search – one inspired by none other than 2008 Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown.

With his trademark charm and sense of purpose, Big Brown is sounding the call to find his very own “mini-me”, a little brown horse to carry on the ambassador role once held by the legendary Little Silver Charm.

For more than 20 years, Little Silver Charm was far more than a familiar face around the farm. Small in stature but mighty in personality, he greeted visitors and helped share the mission of Old Friends with guests from around the world. Whether escorting tours, keeping company with retired champions, or simply making people smile, he became a symbol of warmth, joy, and connection.

Following Little Silver Charm’s passing in August 2025, the Old Friends family has felt both the loss of a cherished friend and the inspiration to honor his legacy in a meaningful way.

“Little Silver Charm had a rare gift,” said John Nicholson, President and CEO of Old Friends. “He brought people together, made everyone feel welcome, and reminded us that every horse, no matter their size or background, has an important story to tell. Finding the next little horse to carry that message forward is a joyful challenge, and we can’t wait to see who might answer the call.”

Following in the hoof-prints of Little Silver Charm, this future ambassador will help welcome the public, support outreach efforts, and represent the heart and humor of Old Friends. While no horse could ever truly replace Little Silver Charm, the farm is hopeful to discover another special personality who can carry the role forward in their own unique way.

Founder Michael Blowen adds a personal note: “No one could ever replace Little Silver Charm, but I’d really love to have another little horse that would take me on long walks every day.”

Old Friends is now accepting nominations and submissions for this special role. Supporters, horse lovers, and members of the local equine community are invited to recommend a candidate who fits the spirit of the position — friendly, people-oriented, and ready to shine.

Eligibility guidelines and a nomination form can be found here.

The search for Little Brown is officially underway, and the next chapter of this beloved tradition is just beginning!
