Riva Way descends from Virginia ‘s great Meadow Stable and from two of the most illustrious bloodlines in racing history. His dam is the daughter of Meadow Stable’s star Riva Ridge, who won both the Kentucky Derby and the Belmont Stakes in 1972. And his sire, Tinners Way, is a son of the legendary Secretariat, winner of the 1973 Triple Crown. Despite more than a passing resemblance to his paternal grandfather, Riva Way never lived up to his genetic expectations. Still, the gelding had a prolific five-year career starting mostly in claiming races in New Jersey and Philadelphia, winning 11 starts (including three consecutive triumphs at Monmouth Park in 2003), and coming in the money another 19 times. When injuries prevented Riva Way from again racing competitively, he was acquired for Old Friends by Maya de Rosa. Share sheet info – click here. Donate to sponsor Riva Way.
