The past year wasn’t kind to our Old Girlfriends, five of whom left us. One of them was Devilocity Lass, whose sire was a royally-bred son of Mr. Prospector, from the great distaff family of leading sires Sadler’s Wells and Nureyev. While Laabity had been a pricey $1.3-million yearling, his daughter was not so well regarded by prospective buyers—bringing just $4,500 when her turn through the ring came.
Lass didn’t run, but later produced a stakes-placed winner on the track, and a successful eventer on the show circuit. We lost her this year at age 23.
