Persie was named 2018 Claiming Horse of the Year by the National Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HPBA). He was one of only five horses in the United States with ten or more wins in 2018. A son of 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, Persie began his race career at two but was a non-winner until September of his three year old campaign when he won two claiming races in a row at Delaware Park as a homebred for the Elkstone Group and trainer Kelly Rubley with Erick Rodriguez riding. At four he won 4 of his 17 starts at Penn National and Delaware, having been claimed by Adam Staple and trained by Michael Gorham, with Augusto Marin aboard. In early 2018, trained by Brandon Kulp he won three in a row at Penn National with Dana Whitney up. That summer, now for Bush Racing Stable and trainer Lester Stickler, Jr. and usually with William Otero in the irons, Persie reached his best form, winning 7 of his 8 starts between July 11 and November 10! As a six year old in 2019 Persie scored three more wins for these connections, ending his career at the end of 2019 with a total of 19 wins from 58 starts and $280,727 earnings.
