Old Friends Blog: Gulch has been elected into the Racing Hall of Fame!

In all he did, Gulch excelled, and now he will be celebrated in an enduring way. Gulch will be inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame on August 7 at the National Museum of Racing in Saratoga Springs, NY.

A small horse with a large presence, Gulch was sired by Mr. Prospector, who was lightly raced but arguably the most influential stallion of his time. His dam, Jameela, was a multiple Grade 1 winner. Bred and owned by Peter M. Brant and trained by LeRoy Jolley, then by D. Wayne Lukas, Gulch wasn’t dependent on the style of any one jockey. The riders in his stakes wins look like a Who’s-Who of the leading jockeys of his time. For his most memorable win, the 1988 Breeders’ Cup Sprint, he teamed up with Angel Cordero.
