GEORGETOWN, KY. – May 15, 2024 – This Saturday, May 17, 2024, Pimlico Racecourse will host the third running of the “Old Friends Purse,” an allowance race that will benefit the Thoroughbred retirement farm in Georgetown, Ky. The Old Friends Purse is the 2nd race on Saturday’s undercard of the 150th running of the Preakness Stakes (G1).
The race is part of the “Old Friends for Life” program, where the winner earns the opportunity to receive retirement for life at Old Friends anytime during their lives.
The winner of the inaugural Old Friends Purse in 2022, was Be Better, a 5-year-old son of Uncle Mo. The winner of last year’s Old Friends Purse was Desvio, a 3-year old son of Yoshida (JPN)–Fitzrovia, by Uncle Mo.
A field of 11 horses will battle in this year’s Old Friends Purse, a one-mile race on the turf, as they attempt to win the $54,000 purse.
